Google uses more than 200 factors to rank a website. But the number one factor Google uses is backlinks.

Backlinks are when someone links from your website to your website. The more sites you link to, the higher your ranking will be in Google.

Not all backlinks are the same anymore. Google looks at what it looks like when analyzing backlinks.

1. How authentic is the site you link to? If the Huffington Post links to you, it's much more effective than I, Nelpitel.com, links to you. Why? Because the Huffington Post is considered a well-known authoritative site.

2. Authority is measured by a metric called "domain authority". It is on a scale of 0 to 100. The higher the number, the better. Ideally you want to get backlinks from sites with domain authority that are more than you. You can use the Learn Your Domain Authority to learn how to use the ahrefs.com tool.

a. The more relevant the site, the better the link. If you're in the plumbing space, a link to the Huffington Post isn't as good as the Home Depot (which is the authority's place in the home repair space). Try to get links from top domain authority sites within your space.

If you want to create links, the fastest way to create them is through round-up posts. Email and interview people in your area. Include their ideas in your blog and let them know when you publish this post which includes them. Ask them to share a post on your favorite social network and also ask if they can contact you.

Doing so will increase your ranking in Google.
